November Crafts Fairs details, details

Getting kinda jazzed. This Saturday, November 1st, is the beginning of crafts fair season. The Holiday Bazaar at St. James Presbyterian Church runs from 9:00am-3:00pm. The church is located at 910 14th St., across from Lowell Elementary. Each year the bazaar runs in sync with the biggie, Potpourri of Art at Sacred Heart, which is right down the street at 14th & Knox. It’s a block of bazaars.

Then, the following Saturday, November 8th, is the Holiday Bazaar at Bellingham Covenant Church, 1530 E. Bakerview, west of the Hannegan. The fair runs from 9:00am ’til 4:00pm.

Jars, a little slice of container heaven

l’ve had a love affair with containers ever since I was a little girl. My Mom used to give me boxes for special occasions and now I have quite a collection. Lately, I’ve been toying with glass jars. I’ve been searching for paper that allows as much light as possible to penetrate, and found this wonderful Thai Rice Paper.

Soap Making is Chemistry, Baby

Poem at Otion's Cold Process Soapmaking Class

Poem and I took a cold process soapmaking class at Otion on Saturday. I like working with the Palm and Coconut bases and especially like the Shea butter. Picking out the fragrance oils and adding the mica and oxide coloring powders is the most creative part. The lye beads are a little scary. I am really sensitive to cleaning agents and when I began to scrape the lye/water mixture, I couldn’t stop coughing. If I decide to start making soap, I am going to have to do that part out on the deck where the toxic fumes won’t be a problem.

Something I’ve wanted to do for some time is learn how to make soap, so I’ve signed up for a Cold Process Soap Making Class at Otion October 18th. Bubblelicious.
